DPI is pleased to welcome Sharipov Sherzodbek as its new Human Rights Officer. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree in International Relations from Uzbekistan and a Masters in Human Rights from Central European University in Hungary. Sherzodbek has several years of experience with international projects and has worked in the areas of legal education, advocacy and social justice. In addition, Sherzodbek has worked as a National Consultant for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP Uzbekistan).

DPI congratulates Elaine Martyn on her new position as the Global Fund for Women's new Vice President of Development.

Conference of State Parties Update                                                              

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was adopted by the General Assembly 13 December 2006 and came into force 3 May 2008. Article 40 of the Convention stipulates that "The States Parties shall meet regularly in a Conference of States Parties in order to consider any matter with regard to the implementation of the present Convention." Since 2008, three sessions of the Conference of States Parties have been held at United Nations Headquarters, New York. In September 2011, the fourth session titled "Enabling Development, Realizing the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" included sub-themes on "Realizing the Convention through International Cooperation," "Political and Civil Participation" and "Work and Employment". International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 3 December 2011

Make plans now to celebrate the International Day of Disabled Persons. This year's theme is "Together for a better world for all: Including persons with disabilities in development." UK Conference

"The Conference on Disability Rights and International Cooperation" will be held 20th October 2011 in Dublin, Ireland. Ms. Judith Heumann, Special Adviser to the US Department of State on International Disability Rights, is the keynote speaker. Conference in Europe

The International Federation of Hard of Hearing Young People (IFHOHYP) invites youth and young adults ages 18-30 to participate in a session on policy and social awareness organized in cooperation with the Council of Europe, 20-27 November 2011 in Strasburg, Germany. Session will be delivered n English. Deadline for applications is 1 October 2011. More information is available at
